Dear Joseph,

I am not a member of Nuestros Ranchos (although I do have genealogical roots
in the three states through several of my lines, including the Ruiz de
Esparza), but often read some of the public posts (you have a wonderful
site!). I was actually doing research for someone else in Irapuato,
Guanajuato records and came across a document that may be helpful to your
member Daniel Mendez de Torres Camino. I remembered reading a post by Daniel
on NR that he had yet to find a baptismal or other evidence that his
ancestor, Sebastian Francisco Onate, was the child of Sebastian de Onate. I
came across a loose document in one of the baptismal books that names
Sebastian Francisco and his abuelos and bisabuelos. I was hoping you could
post it for Daniel in case it is helpful to him. I have attached it here,

Thank you!

Hello Nuestros Ranchos forum,

Dear Primos and Friends:

September 15 is the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. Do hope you will take the occasion to share your history in some manner with family and friends.

Somos Primos issues are always packed with lots of heritage and cultural information which can be used as points of conversation for promoting Hispanic Heritage Month.

In addition I invite you to go to a resource designed for use by teachers in the classroom and youth leaders during Hispanic Heritage Month.
http://www.somosprimos.com/heritage/heritage.htm

Keeping up with the great growing interest in DNA, this issue is particularly full of DNA information. Not only will you find eight articles on human DNA, but also the first assessments of global information on horse DNA which is just beginning to be released from a world-wide study. Somos Primos interest in horse DNA is because our ancestors took those horses all over the world and the horse DNA proves it.

Do look at the listing of the monthly articles published in Somos Primos by educator Dr. Eddie Calderon, Ph.D. Eddie has submitted two articles monthly for the last 5 years on the Philippines and Filipinos. The compilation is a cultural treasure of linguistic, historical, social, and cultural insight. I am proud for Somos Primos to be the home for Eddie's informative writings.

Thanks to all who who send personal stories, articles, event notices and happenings. Somos Primos is enriched by the great diversity.

Big hug and God Bless, Mimi

- Several people from the "Nueva Galicia Genealogical Society" and "Los Bexarenos" have been interacting with me in the last couple of years.
- The "Coloquio de Genealogia e Historia", held in Aguascalientes, Mexico last week several members of those organizations attended the event, such as Maria Elena Cortez, Mickey Garcia, Martha Gavela and some others who may give references of me and my work.
If you have any doubt about my credentials you can contact them or visit our page:

Gertrudis Romero de Chaves

I can’t understand the marriage references to Joseph Gonzalez de Hermosillo and Gertrudis Romero. It looks like she is the daughter of Lucas Romero de Chaves and petronila Gonzalez de Hermosillo but the record says she is Gertrudis Romero de Mora or Zamora.

Can someone clear this up for me?

Batch Numbers for respective Film Numbers

No, Leticia. All LDS films do NOT have Batch numbers, - - - and the Librarians at the Family History Center we both frequent tell me that there is no Cross-Index list for Film #-to-existing-Batch numbers.
But Lynn Turner (of LDS in Salt Lake City and a member of this Forum) could set us straight if this is in error !

As to the Film Numbers that you inquired about (#291844, #291845, and #291846) of Silao, Guanajuato, I think they relate to church records of the Santiago Apostol Parish and I do not believe they have respectrive Batch numbers.

I do have 6 Batch Numbers/Film#s for the Santiago Apostol Parish in Neutla (ranging from 1719 to 1843) - - - if it is the same - - - that I can provide you, if they relate to your search.

Padrones for San Martín de Hidalgo, Cocula, Ameca, or Zacoalco de Torres?

Hi, I would like to know if there are any padrones (census) for the towns of San Martín de Hidalgo (also known as San Martín de la Cal), Cocula, Ameca, or Zacoalco de Torres. All of these towns are located in central Jalisco, and the majority of my ancestors lived in these municipalities. And I would also like to know if there are any "Tierra y Aguas" (Property and water rights records) for these communities, or where can these microfilms be located.

Thanks in advance,
Valente.

Enrique Salvador Agraz Villarreal

FRANCISCA DE NARVAEZ & the Sanchez de la Mejorada of Sierra de Pinos

The Genealogy of Francisca de Narváez
28 Oct 1654 - 4 Apr 1739

Doña Francisca de Narvaez was the matriarch of the Sanchez de la Mejorada line, of Sierra de Pinos: even though she never married, from her descend all families, using that surname, born in and around Pinos after 1698. The fact that she never married, makes her a challenge to research, because of the lack of marriage records, and the lack of baptism records for legitimate children. But, with the discovery of the San Luis Potosi padrones, as well as another group of documents, I believe I’ve established the origin of Francisca de Narvaez.

First, some background:

Francisca de Narvaez had at least 4 natural children, all who were born in SLP, and who would raise their families in Sierra de Pinos:

1. Capitan Francisco Sanchez de la Mejorada Narvaez, m1. Ysabel Ruiz de Villaseñor, m2. Margarita de Cuevas, 25 Jan 1720, San Matias, Pinos, Zac.
2. Antonia de Narvaez, b. 26 Jul 1682, Sagrario SLP; m. Miguel Mendez de Sotomayor
3. Antonio Sanchez Narvaez, b. 01 Sep 1692, Sagrario SLP; m. Gregoria Mendez de Sotomayor, m. 31 Jan 1720, San Matias, Pinos, Zac. Carpintero de oficio.
4. Luis Sanchez de la Mejorada Narvaez, m. Antonia Gomez, 04 Feb 1722, San Matias, Pinos, Zac.

According to their marriage records, Francisco Sanchez and Antonio Sanchez were hijos naturales of Francisca de Narvaez and of Cristobal Sanchez, Español. I've been unable to locate Cristobal Sanchez; he might be the same who was married to Simona Torres, and who baptized Angela, 27 Mar 1674, Sagrario SLP, but I've been unable to establish any link. Those 2 drop off the map. Whoever he was, Cristobal Sanchez and Francisca de Narvaez apparently continued their relationship over a long period of time, since Francisco and Antonio Sanchez were born 18 years apart.

On his marriage record, Luis Sanchez is hijo natural of Francisca de Narvaez and father- unknown, yet he and his descendants would use the "Sanchez de la Mejorada" surname. From a dispensa, we know that Antonia de Narvaez is his sister. She also used “Sanchez” on one occasion, so they might also be natural children of Cristobal Sanchez.

All families using the "Sanchez de la Mejorada" surname in Sierra de Pinos descend from Francisco Sanchez and Luis Sanchez. "Sanchez de la Mejorada" nor “Mejorada” appear whatsoever in the Sag SLP Parish archives, nor in the SLP Protocolos, so the surname originated elsewhere. See http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/21848

FRANCISCA DE NARVAEZ IN SIERRA DE PINOS

The first of Francisca’s children to appear in the San Matias parish archives was her oldest, Francisco Sanchez, who baptized Josefa, 18 Apr 1698, born on Puesto de Salitre.

Francisca makes her first appearance on 10 Nov 1701, when she was madrina for the baptism of Francisca Xaviela, of unknown parents, “expuesta” in the home of Maria Gomez, also on Salitre. The padrino on the same baptism was Nicolas Gomez de Sotomayor, brother of Maria Gomez, both children of Blas Gomez de Ruelas and Maria de Avila, neighbors on Salitre. Francisca apparently had a very close relationship with this family, as she appeared as madrina on various baptisms for and with their children:

On 29 Oct 1716, with her son, Antonio Sanchez, she was madrina for the baptism of Lucas, son of Bernabe Montañez and Gertrudis Gomez Avila, on Salitre;

On 03 Oct 1722, she was madrina with Juan Antonio Gomez Avila, for her grandson, Miguel Fermin, born on Santa Rita, son of Luis Sanchez and Antonia Gomez. Francisca was likely living on Santa Rita, by this time, which was owned by the aforementioned Nicolas Gomez de Sotomayor (father of her daughter-in-law, Antonia Gomez);

On 31 Aug 1724, with Bernabe Montañez, she was madrina for the baptism of Luis, son of Juan Antonio Gomez Avila and Nicolasa Mendez de Sotomayor, on Puesto de Santa Rita.

Francisca de Narvaez, Española, originaria de la Ciudad de San Luis Potosí, died and was buried 4 Apr 1739, in San Matias, Pinos, Zac. Her partida says she was a widow, and had been living on Puesto de Santa Rita. She received the Sacraments, and was given a modest burial.

FRANCISCA DE NARVAEZ IN SAGRARIO SAN LUIS POTOSI

Combing the Sagrario SLP parish archives, only one woman, named "Francisca de Narvaez," appears during the 1600's. I was able to locate the baptism records of her children, Antonia (26 Jul 1682) and Antonio (01 Sep 1692), which do name her, but otherwise, she appears nowhere else. On Antonia's partida, is the only time we see Francisca categorized as Mestiza. Otherwise, she’s always Española.

No one named "Narvaez," father nor mother, baptized a "Francisca" in Sagrario SLP, during the mid-1600's, when ours would have been born. She might have been baptized elsewhere, or the surname "skipped" a generation, or, most likely, she was an "hija de la Yglesia."

CATALINA DE LA CRUZ

I was left in the dark, until I located the padrones for San Luis Potosi. Francisca de Narvaez appears in three:

1668: Casa de Catalina de la Cruz + Nicolasa Narvaez + Francisca Narvaez - Madalena - Felipa de Jesus -
1681: Rancho de Francisco Carrion Esp + Francisca Narvaez, Española +
1684: Casa de Catalina de la Cruz, Mestiza+ Maria de San Joaquin+ Francisca Narvaez + Nicolas Martinez Conf Juan Martinez + Teresa de Jesus + Joseph Martinez +

There’s an apparent relationship with Catalina de la Cruz: in 1668, Francisca hadn't yet received Communion, so she was still a child, possibly 5-8 years-old. She's likely daughter of Catalina de la Cruz, as are the other girls.

I could use some help fining a birth record(read post for more details)..

I'm trying to help my grandpa's half brother trace his father's side of the family. He unfortunately doesn't know the names of his paternal grandparents. His father Manuel Saldana was probably born sometime during the 1890's possibly somewhere in Jalisco(i'll get into that a bit later).
Back in early June, I dna tested him and finally got the results earlier this week. He had some second cousin matches that didn't match my grandpa at all, indicating that they are related to him through his dad Manuel's side. I emailed this person, and found that those matches(who happen to be full siblings) relate to my great uncle through their dad's side. It was also mentioned that their paternal grandfather came from jalostotitlan, and that their paternal grandma's mom was from some place called Rios Bolivos in Jalisco(which i can't find where in Jalisco that place is). I've tried looking for a Manuel Saldana in the Jalostotilan church records with no luck. It would be awesome if i could trace his dad's side as well, since I've been able to trace my great grandma Lupe's ancestry several generations further.

My Notes on Villasenor, Orozco, and Corona

I am finding the recent posts on Nuestors Ranchos regarding the Villasenor family very interesting. I think this would be a good time to share some of my Villasenor research below in 2 Parts. Some of it may help other researchers.

Part 1:
I have the maternal grandparents of the Conquistador Juan de Villasenor Orozco as Diego de Orozco, Comendador de Poza-Rubia en la Orden de Santiago, (son of a Rodrigo de Orozco y Mejia, Comendador de Villa Hermosa, OR son of a Fernan Ruiz Iniguez de Orozco) and Guiomar de Sandoval (daughter of Pedro de Sandoval and Catalina Fernandez).

Does this match anybody else’s notes?

Part 2:
I am working on a potential descent from the Conquistador Juan de Villasenor Orozco’s son Juan de Villasenor Cervantes, husband of Catalina Corona.

I have seen nothing directly naming Catalina’s parents but I have found one clue about her relations:

Catalina Corona, also called Catalina Gonzalez Corona, is said to be a first cousin of the wife of a Diego Hurtado, “homonimo del escribano famoso de Nueva Galicia”. I am not sure who this particular “Diego Hurtado” is, nor do I know the name of his wife, so piecing together Catalina’s lineage is proving to be difficult.

Does anybody know of any other clues regarding Catalina Corona’s background?

Question?

So I want to try to trace my American/Mexican ancestors so is there any other website like ancestry.com that you don't have to pay?If someone is subscribed to ancestry.com it would be very nice helpful if you could help me out on finding my ancestors that lived in the u.s?I would ask my father but he separated from my mother when I was like 2 years old and we do not stay in touch at all I believe he still lives in Texas.

Father:Rogelio Flores Born:San Antonio Bexar 03 Jul 1951
Parents:Roberto Diaz Flores & Petra Flores
My mother told me that my dads father was born in Mexico but she doesn't know what part of Mexico and that my fathers mother was born in Texas County Bexar
Roberto and Petra had approx. 6 children

It would mean a lot to me if someone helped me out tracing my dads ancestry or just gave me directions on what to do.

Enrique Agraz

back up blog

i recently made a back-up blog for my guadalajara dispensas tumblr blog and managed to import posts from there to here: https://mygenealogyindexes.wordpress.com/

i've yet to make a directory for the posts like i did on tumblr, but hopefully i'll get to it eventually, and modify the layout as well.

i'm doing this just in case yahoo/verizion decides to get rid of tumblr.
