Saucedo, Udabe & Lopez de la Cerda of Teocaltiche, Jalisco

Hello everyone, My name is Cynthia Saucedo & I am a descendant of Juan Zacharias Saucedo Udabe.  I see there are posts on Nuestros Ranchos that are over 10 years old from other descendants of the Saucedo, Udabe, Lopez de la Cerda family line.  If anyone researching this family line is still active on this website I would like to collaborate.  It seems there is a brick wall with the grandparents of Juan Zacharias.  I am researching the Saucedo/Udabe/de la Cerda line from Teocaltiche, Jalisco.  Christoval Saucedo married Feliciana Udabe López de la Cerda around 1711.  There is no marriage record for them.  I have not been able to find any sources with the names of Christoval Saucedo’s parents nor have I been able to find any siblings of Christoval Saucedo. The parents of Feliciana, his wife, are Isidro Udabe & Rosa Manuela Lopez de la Cerda.  There is no marriage record for them however, their children are listed as legitimate children in each of their marriage records.  I have not been able to find death/burial records for Isidro Udabe or Rosa Manuela Lopez de la Cerda.

The children of Isidro Udabe & Rosa Manuela Lopez de la Cerda are:

Feliciana Udabe López

New to the site

Greetings,

I am new to the site and recently began researching my grandparents (Pedo Araiza and Elena Rodriguez), both who passed before I was born.  Both migrated to the U.S. and ran a restaurant called the Texcoco Inn (Houston, TX). Found a couple of articles about them from the Sig Byrd archives (writer in Houston) but not much else of their families in Mexico.

Ansurez/Onsures/Unsures

Hello Everyone,

I was hoping to find out if anyone has any variation of the aforementioned names in their family history. I have had a challenging time finding information on my mother’s side of the family beyond GG grandfather Ladislao Ansures and a GGG grandfather Ciriaco Ansures. I believe there may be a connection to a sibling Simon, and i think they ultimately resided in Chihuahua. I find the names fascinating, though! Thank you for any information or suggestions!

Alvidres in Jalisco

I'm looking for Alvidres in Jalisco. I know of one from Jalisco in 1710 (Nicolas Alvidres) but no others. The surname, however, abounds in Chihuahua and I'd like to find the connexion between Chihuahua and Jalisco (if any) of this family line. (It's also a curiosity to me since Alvidres appears fairly uncommon.) Gracias.

New to the site

Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and would like to introduce myself. My name is Daniel Hearn and am beginning my research on my mothers side of the family that have surnames of Ornelas (Ornelaz after coming to the United States), Lupercio, Garcia, Chavez, Chavoyo, Rodriguez, Luna and probably many more to come. My Grandfather moved with his family through Texas to California sometime in the 1930's. I believe it was due to the Cristero war. The most specific location I know of from my uncle is Rancho Mayor near Teocaltiche in the state of Jalisco. Through FamilySearch.org and Ancestry.com Library Edition. Due to the quality of records in naming parents and grandparents I've been able to trace a line but need to clean it up in order to get the dates correct. I have found some interesting points that substantiate family stories. I also am finding out family research can be difficult when faced with information that is difficult to accept or come to terms with. Either way, I hope to be as helpful as possible in this forum to teach and learn new things. Below is a link to my file that includes a copy of my Ahnentafel.

Best regards,
Daniel Hearn

Way to show 400 years of family

Does anyone have an easy way to show 15+ generation pedigree for relatives that are curious about from where we immigrated, but don't want to spend much time looking at it?  You know the ones, they are not into genealogy, but they are interested in the direct line all the way back to the 1500's.  Some of those pedigree charts get really small.  Is there something on multiple pages that I could lay out on a table?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Relationship between Beltran de la Cueva Velasco and Ana Flores de la Torre

Greetings to all,

I am fairly new to genealogical research, but I am trying to establish solid proof a one particular line going back 15 generations. I have been able to establish many of the generations, but I am having some trouble with a few. I have searched this site (and others) and have read many of the forums on this site, which offered great help, but have not been able to locate documentation for some generations. I only included marriage dates for the moment, but can include other information, if needed. I will follow with the generations I am trying to link and find documentation for. I also realize that some names may vary as individuals sometimes shortened or used a variation of their surnames. Below is the lineage starting with myself:

  1. Gabriel Brambila
  2. Gabriel Brambila married Francisca Mendoza
  3. Gabriel Brambila married Sulema Garza in 1949
  4. Gabriel Brambila married Josefina Garcia y Reyna in 1908
  5. Jose Felipe Brambila married Florencia Contreras Cuevas in 1880
  6. Jose Luis Brambila married Maria Feliciana Fregoso
  7. Jose Casildo Brambila married Maria Rita Rafaela de la Paz Garcia in 1828
  8. Jose Bernadino de la Brambila de la Cueva married Maria Josefa Gomez
  9. Jose Reyes de la Brambila married Margarita de Jesus de la Cueva de Benavides in 1763 in Tecolotlan, Jalisco
  10. Juan de la Cueva de Mora married Rosalia Antonia Benavides Guido in 1741 in Tecolotlan, Jalisco
  11. Juan Beltran de la Cueva married Juana de la Mora in 1711 in Tecolotlan, Jalisco
  12. Beltran Fernandes married Tomasa (Tomasina) de Velasco de la Cueva in 1684 in Tecolotlan, Jalisco
  13. Francisco de Velasco y Temiño married Geronima de la Cueva; they lived in Tecolotlan, Jalisco
  14. Alonso de Velasco y Zuniga married Ana Flores de la Torre y Temiño; they lived in Juchipila, Zacatecas
  15. Diego Flores de la Torre married Angela Temiño de Velasco
  16. Pedro Pacho Rodriguez married Maria Ana Temiño de Velasco Alcocer y Bañuelos

As I mentioned above, I have been able to make a connection, with documentation, for many of the above generations (1 - 10). I am having trouble showing, with documentation (birth/baptism/marriage records), the connection for the following generations (11 - 14):

11. Juan Beltran de la Cueva was the son Beltran Fernandes and Tomasina de Velasco de la Cueva

12. Tomasina de Velasco de la Cueva was the daughter of Francisco de Velasco y Temiño and Geronima de la Cueva

13. Francisco de Velasco y Temiño was the son of Alonso de Velasco y Zuniga and Ana Flores de la Torre y Temiño

14. Ana Flores de la Torre y Temiño was the daughter of Diego Flores de la Torre and Angela Temiño de Velasco

If anyone can assist it would greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for the help,

Gabe Brambila

Jose Rafael Orozco's wives

Has anyone found the marriage of Jose Rafael Orozco/Orosco and Maria Guadalupe Vargas/Bargas?  Most likely in San Miguel el Alto, 1810-1817.

Is the Rafael Orosco that married Maria Ignacia Martin in 1824 the same Rafael Orosco that married Maria Guadalupe Bargas?  Ma Guadalupe died in 1822.  Her son, Jose Bitor Orosco Bargas has paternal grandparents listed in his baptismal record as:

Jose Alejo( Bargas) y Orozco and Maria de San Juan Hernandez

The Rafael Orozco/Maria Ignacia Martin line seems to be well researched, but I have not come across mention of a Ignacia being a second wife.

Any confirmation that I am coming to the correct conclusion that these is the same Rafael Orozco would appreciated.

More on the ancestry of Alonso de Estrada

Hola prim@s,

This is the Ejecutoria del pleito de hidalguía filed by Licenciado Diego Hernández de Vergara, dated 12 Jul 1548: http://pares.mcu.es:80/ParesBusquedas20/catalogo/description/5703246
Licenciado Vergara was a 1st-cousin of treasurer & governor Alonso de Estrada, according to the very detailed genealogy given by Estrada’s cousin, Mari Fernández Hidalgo, in the 1585 limpieza of Jorge de Alvarado y Villafañe: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS2D-KSYH?cat=630488
The genealogy given in this document coincides perfectly with that genealogy. It even goes back one more generation, and names Licenciado Vergara’s (and Estrada’s) great-grandfather as Juan Alonso, vecino de Ciudad Real (who apparently received a carta ejecutoria de su hidalguía from King Pedro de Castilla). Here’s what the family tree now looks like:

1st generation: Juan Alonso cc ?

2nd generation: Diego Hernández Hidalgo cc Mari González de Estrada

3rd generation:
a. Diego Hernández Hidalgo “el Mozo” cc María González de la Mora (abuelos de Mari Fernández Hidalgo).
b. Anton Hernández Hidalgo cc Inés González (padres de Lᵈº Vergara).
c. Fernando Hidalgo cc Francisca de Mazariegos (padres de Diego Mazariegos).
d. Juan Hernández Hidalgo cc ? (padres de Alonso de Estrada).

This pleito was cited in the one filed on 22 Aug 1552 by Alonso de Estrada’s son, Luis Alfonso de Estrada, before the Sala de Hijosdalgo of the Chancellería de Granada. In that pleito, Luis Alfonso names his paternal grandfather as Juan Hidalgo, carpintero; according to Vergara’s pleito, Diego Hernández Hidalgo “el Viejo” was also a carpenter.

I hope you’re all doing well!
Saludos,
Manny Díez Hermosillo

Durango Researcher Javier R. Avitia

Does anyone know how to contact Javier R. Avitia?  He has a database of thousands of individuals from Canelas, Durango, Mexico.  I mention this here because I believe a number of you do research in Durango.  I have found his posts online , but no way of contacting him.  The post are 17-25 years old.  He did live in Los Angeles.  I have made attempts to find him with no luck.  He definitely has lines I am researching.  Please let me know how to contact him or his relations or ask him to contact me.  Thanks.          celeste@agabra.com

Jalisco and Zacatecas Ancestors

Hello all!

I have just recently (last 6 months) started looking into my family history. All four of my grandparents came to the US from Mexico between 1916 and 1922.

My father's paternal line is from Jalisco, mostly Lagos de Moreno and Etzatlan. I've hit a wall on his maternal side. I can't get beyond his mother's parents.

My mother's family is from Zacatecas. Her maternal line has roots in Sombrerete. But on her paternal line, I can't get beyond her grandparents.

I have subscribed to Ancestry, which has helped in addition to Family Search. Are there digital archives from these states/cities in Mexico that we can access? Would appreciate any tips.

Thanks!

Marquez Ledesma in San Miguel el Alto

I have found a Nieves Ledesma marrying Jesus Marquez(f.Felipe Marquez/mom Susana Martin) in 1840 and having a child with Jose Ana Marquez in 1841, both in San Miguel el Alto.  I believe they are part of Jose Joaquin Gutierrez de Laris(b~1689)/Cecilia Martin line.  Is there anyway I can confirm this is the same man?  The only time Nieves is listed with Jesus and not Jose Ana is the marriage and I can find no marriage for Nieves and Jose Ana.

Meaning of "coates"

Hello, I came across the word coate after a birth name. I'm not
sure if it is part of the name or a description. It is shown as
"Antonio coate mulato". I cannot tell if it is capitalized or not. Has
anyone come across this word in your research? I thought is
might be coyote, but mulato is listed right after.

Avila Huizar

Need help, can't find any info on my great grandfather or anyone before him.  I was told that my great grandfather Alfredo used his mother's maiden name Avila and Huizar - Paternal - Alfredo Avila Huizar from Jerez, Zacatecas. Anyone with info or where to look please do so.  I would greatly appreciate it.

Bracamontes came out in my search

Orosco families in Arandas, Jalisco

I am a descendant of Dr Jeronimo Orosco from Seville, Spain. My 3rd great Grandmother was an Orosco from Arandas. My grandmother has always said she had a close relative that was Jewish, but didn't know exactly who. My grandmother has 5% Jewish DNA.

I was watching a You Tube video on Hacienda San Sebastian and in the beginning of the video, the narrator stated that the owners of this hacienda, who were Oroscos, were Jewish Conversos. I know most of these Orosco families during that time, were related. Does anyone have any confirmation that they were indeed Jewish?

morillo.murillo familiies

stumped as to where to look for and ancestrys hints are a bit off for my ways of thinking. looking for information pertaining to the families of francisca moreles and pedro murillo or morillo . the daughter known in records as francisca morillo is 3rd great grandma and married rumauldo coronado. they in turn had a child that is my 2nd great grandfather as francisco coronado. family search places pedro morillos birth as villa de cos , zacatecas mexico as 1825 but no records been found after that concerning any parentage of him or wife known as francisca morales.

Rosalio Onate

I've been a Nuestros Ranchos member for about 18 years.  Any information on my great-grandfather Rosalio Onate b. about 1856 Villa Garcia, Zacatecas, his father Pablo Donate b. about 1824 Agostadero or Asientos, Aguas., and Bernabe Donate b. about 1800, also from Agostadero or Asientos, Aguas. would be greatly appreciated.  I've searched several years with no avail for definitive dates and places of birth.  Thank you all so much,  Alice B Blake

RUIZ DE ESPARZA EN SAN LUIS POTOSÍ

Has anyone else noticed that in San Luis Potosi, there was a man named Lope Ruiz de Esparza, living there as early as 7 June 1644? On that date, in the parish of Nra Sra de la Asuncion de Tlaxcalilla, he married Elena de la Cruz, who according to other records, lived in the home of Martin Navarro, on whose rancho and carbonera this couple would live for years, said to be his “criados.”

They had at least 4 children:
1. Josepha Ruiz Cruz, b. 02 Apr 1645, San Luis Potosi
2. Domingo Ruiz Cruz, b. 02 Apr 1646, San Luis Potosi
3. Francisca Ruiz de Esparza, b. 08 Dec 1648, San Luis Potosi, m. Francisco Delgadillo aka Juan Delgado, 7 Jan 1664, San Luis Potosi
4. Pedro Ruiz de Esparza Cruz, b. 27 Aug 1651, Aguascalientes, m. Juana Prieto Gallardo, 20 Oct 1671, San Luis Potosi.

Around August 1676, Elena de la Cruz died, and on 8 Feb 1678, in San Francisco de Pozos SLP, Lope Ruiz married his second wife, Elena de Acosta y Gogorron.

They had at least three children:
1. Maria de Esparza Acosta, b. 24 Jan 1680, San Luis Potosi
2. Ygnacio de Esparza, b. 15 Aug 1681, San Luis Potosi; m. Gregoria de los Angeles Martin Cruz, 28 Nov 1702, San Francisco de Pozos, SLP
3. Crespin Antonio Ruiz de Esparza Gogorron, b. 10 Nov 1686, San Francisco de Pozos ,SLP; m. Manuela de Guadalupe Ramos, 25 Oct 1719, San Francisco de Pozos, SLP

When a witness in 1676, Lope Ruiz gave his age as “more than 80 years,” placing his birth before 1596. On most church records, he and his wives and children were categorized as Mestizos, though on some, as Españoles, while on others, as Mulatos. My take is that he and both of his wives were of mixed race.

In 1656, when he registered a livestock brand, Lope Ruiz was the owner of a carbonera located near Las Canoas; in 1675, when he again registered a brand, though he now lived in the city of San Luis, he owned a rancho “some 14 leagues from this city, at the paraje called Magueyal,” which he left in the care of his mayordomo and son-in-law, Juan Delgado, who lived there with his family.

Though most of his children were born around San Luis Potosi, Lope and his first wife did baptize one child in Aguascalientes in August 1651 (whose godfather was Andres de Cheuro?). But most tantalizing was when their daughter, Francisca Ruiz de Esparza, married on 7 Jan 1664, she used the name Francisca de Gabay.

Coincidences? There are just too many to ignore. Since I’ve been unable to document a link between this Lope Ruiz and the family from Aguascalientes, I can only hypothesize:

From his approximate age, he can easily be a son of Lope Ruiz de Esparza and Francisca de Gabai - I always thought it odd that they had no known son named Lope. But then there’s the fact that this Lope was of mixed race: while Francisca de Gabai had indigenous blood, her children were always categorized as españoles. Also, it seems odd that one of their children would be a mere “criado.” Maybe this Lope was a natural son of Lope Ruiz born before his marriage to Francisca de Gabai, the result of an “amistad ilicita” with one of his criadas? To me, this seems the most likely scenario, as it was very common. Of course, this would mean that this branch of the Ruiz de Esparza would not descend from Petronila.

Young Lope and his wife were in Aguascalientes when they baptized their son, Pedro, on 27 Aug 1651; the elder Lope died on 23 Aug 1651, and maybe they were in town to mourn with the family? This would explain their presence in Aguascalientes. According to the elder Lope’s death registry, he left a “memoria,” naming his heirs: maybe the younger Lope is named among them? This would explain how someone who was a mere “criado” in 1648 could afford his own carbonera by 1656. Hmmm. Hopefully, some day, someone can find Lope Ruiz de Esparza’s memoria. For now, we can only speculate.

In my next post, I’ll talk about Lope’s amo, Martin Navarro, who owned a rancho and carbonera in San Luis Potosi.

Abrazos,
Manny Díez Hermosillo
