Manuela de Carcamo y Santa Cruz

Hello,

I'm reviewing the first film of Baptisms for Tlaltenango. I'm researching the Molina family. I found Manuela de Carcamo y Santa Cruz living with the Molina Family . She shows up as a godmother in the baptism of Josepha de Molina Albertiz (3 april 1636). Does anyone know anything about Manuela de Carcamo y Sta Cruz living in Tlaltenango??

Thanks

Rodrigo de Castro Tlaltenango. (married to Francisca Rodas)

Hello,

I need help reading a record.
It is the baptismal record of Francisco Gonzalez (4 nov 1639) in tlaltenango.
The godparents were:

The "turget" (I don't think is that) could be a clue.

Saludos cordiales.

Gregorio Sandoval Legaspi's wife

Hey everybody!! I have a question about Gregorio Sandoval Legaspi and his wife.

I descend from his son Nicanor Sandoval, who married Sotera Rodríguez in 1878 and then Ramona Pulido in 1906. In the marriage with Ramona Pulido it states that he is a widow and mentions Sotera Rodríguez, and his parents are Gregorio Sandoval Legaspi and Dolores Pulido. This also matches their grandson, Maximiano Sandoval - my great grandfather.

However, in the marriage registry of Nicanor Sandoval and Sotera Rodríguez (his first wife), Nicanor appears as son of Gregorio Sandoval and Teresa Espinoza, and I don't understand this at all. All the other names match, the dates match, and "Teresa" doesn't sound like "Dolores" at all. It's also not a full name; she is "María Dolores Pulido de los Ríos", so nothing close to "Espinoza". Also, I searched for a registry for Gregorio Sandoval and Teresa Espinoza, and didn't find anything at all.

Do you think it was just a weird registry mistake?

Hello,

I'm reviewing the line of Pedro de la Torre and Rosa Maria Flores in Jerez, Zacatecas. I have several children for the couple. Also I know the parents of Pedro de la Torre (Joseph de la Torre Acosta and Josepha de la Torre del Rio). But I don't have Rosa's parents.
I have read that her parents are Pedro Flores de la Torre and Juana de la Torre but I couldn't find any sources for the information.
Does anyone have any sources to link her to the parents??
Any information would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Sierra Mojada, Coahuila

Yes, This is WAY WAY off topic for this group but I'm helping my second cousin. I'm looking for baptism/birth records for 1888 and civil records for this area start in 1892 so I'm looking for baptism records and don't see it listed as a location in the church records.

If anyone is researching Coahuila where do you think folks registered their children for Sierra Mojada?

thanks,

Maria de Isla- Magdalena de Lavazares

Hola,

Philippines
Guatemala
Nueva España (originally Mexico and Central America except Panama)
Viceroyalty of Peru (originally included most of Spanish South America)
Indias (Florida, Puerto Rico y Venezuela)

Help With Explanation of Baptism Record

Hello, I came accross a Baptismo Record while doing research and I don't believe I've ever seen this.

The record states in parenthesis "(a quien baptizo en caso de necesidad Don Antonio Marmolejo)." I know for a fact that this person is not a member of the clergy from researching thousands of records from this parish. Don Antonio Marmolejo is married and has children.

Was this a common practice? Allowing someone other than a priest to baptize children?

"Relacion De Pasajeros" Archive of Passengers traveling on ship to the Americas

Here is an archive that you can browse fleets of ships with names of passengers that traveled from Spain to the Americas. It is under the term "Relacion de Pasajeros:"

Starts on pg2:

http://pares.mcu.es/ParesBusquedas20/catalogo/find?nm=&texto=Relaci%C3%…

My ancestor Joan Angon was on the Flota de 1606 to Nueva Espana.

He traveled on the Navio La Nao Magdalena. Nao is a class type of ship which are characterized by their shape. A U shape in the middle which is same class that Columbus sailed in.

One note is while I was browsing this list of archives I saw one called "Flota de Azogues." I don't know what is that. But after looking it up is is a "Flota de Mercantes." Or Fleet of Merchants.

Colio and Covarrubias connection to Suarez de Ibarra and Sanchez de Porras

I believe I have connected the descendants of Geronimo Sanchez de Porras and Mariana Suarez de Ibarra to Francisco de Covarrubias y Leyva , Contador, son of Gaspar Covarrubias and Margarita de Quijada and Maria de Colio, grandaughter of Conquistador Diego Gomez de Colio and Catalina de la Torre.

There are many documents that must be gone through to get the whole story on the family. At this point I have gone through:
(Capellanias 1649-1851) Capellanias for Pedro Gomez de Colio and Nicolas de Ibarra, images 5 - 214
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-DL9Z-9Y?mode=g&i=4&wc=3JWY…

Pares > Busqueda Avanzada > Buscar: "Meritos Diego de Herrera", Fecha desde 1600 hasta 1650 > Archivo General de Indias > Indiferente General > MERITOS: Diego de Herrera, fecha creacion 1645

I have partially gone through:
Informaciones: Francisco Covarrubias (Contador)
Pares > Busqueda Avanzada > "Informaciones Francisco Covarrubias" > Archivo General de Indias > Audiencia de Guadalajara > Informaciones: Francisco Covarrubias Pages 1 - 45/193

(Capellanias 1692) Capellania for Francisco Covarrubias
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-6DSL-8C?mode=g&i=59&wc=3J4… Pages 62 - 109

I need to go through:
Capellania for Hernan Guerra de Colio (which seems pertinent)
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-687R-C?i=196&wc=3JW1-HZQ%3…

For ease of discussion I'm going begin with Geronimo Sanchez de Porras (son of Geronimo Sanchez de Porras and Leonor de Hermosillo) who was married to Mariana Suarez de Ibarra (daughter of Alferez Mayor Francisco Suarez de Ibarra and Elena Illan de Vargas)

Here is what I believe to be the proper lineage (I say believe because I have never read so many conflicting testimonies in my 4 years of genealogy, the probably conflict because information is provided about people who lived 150 - 200 yrs before some witnesses):

For the Colio side:

Elena Illan de Vargas
daughter of Mariana de Covarrubias y Colio (spouse Melchor Vargas Machuca)
daughter of Maria de Colio (spouse Francisco Covarrubias y Leyva, contador)
daughter of Maria de Colio (spouse Juan Guerra)
daughter of Diego Garcia de Colio and Catalina de la Torre

For the Covarrubias side:

Elena Illan de Vargas
daughter of Mariana de Covarrubias y Colio (spouse Melchor Vargas Machuca)
daughter of Francisco Covarrubias y Leyva, contador (spouse Maria de Colio)
son of Gaspar de Covarrubias and Margarita Quijada

So heres how I put it all together

Capellanias 1649-1851 Img 12 teaches Pedro Gomez de Colio (Arcediano) is the son Diego Garcia de Colio and Catalina de la Torre, both from Spain

Capellanias 1649-1851 Imgs 70 - 72 teaches Nicolas de Ibarra is is the son of Alferez Mayor Francisco Suarez de Ibarra and Elena Vargas, daughter of Melchor Vargas and Juana de Colio, daughter of Diego de Colio, brother of Pedro Gomez de Colio (very different than the lineage above)

For the baptism of Mariana Suarez de Ibarra, Guadalajara 1666 (searchable in FS), Elena uses the surname Covarrubias

Capellanias 1649-1851, Imgs 12,39 appears Pedro Vargas Machuca son of Captain Melchor Vargas Machuca and Mariana de Colio y Covarrubias. Unfortunately the lineage to the Colio's for Mariana is not disclosed thus far in any documents. I believe Mariana is the Juana Colio referred to in Capellanias 1649-1851 Imgs 70 - 72 Nicolas de Ibarra's lineage.

Pedro Vargas is baptized in Guadalajara 1617 (searchable in FS) to Melchor Vargas and Mariana Covarrubias. I believe Pedro Vargas is Elena Illan de Vargas' sister. The latest Mariana would have been born then approx 1577-1601.

Throughout Capellanias 1649-1851 and Capellanias 1692 children of Francisco Covarrubias and Maria de Colio utilize the surname Colio y Covarrubias. Children discloses are Alfonsa, Diego married to Catalina Angulo y Figuroa, and Francisco, a priest. A baptism
for Alfonsa can be found in Guadalajara 1600, daughter of Francisco Covarrubias and Maria de Colio. This would place her mothers birth in a similar range (1560 - 1584) as Mariana de Colio y Covarrubias spouse of Melchor Vargas Machuca. Therefore Mariana de Colio y Covarrubias must be a daughter for Francisco Covarrubias and Maria de Colio.

Smooth sailing from here. In the Informaciones: Francisco Covarrubias (Contador) Pg 1, states Francisco is married to Maria de Colio, granddaughter of Diego Garcia de Colio, conquistador. Pgs 31 - 32 state Francisco is the son of Gaspar de Covarrubias and Margarita Quijada. Maria de Colio, his wife, is the daughter of Juan Guerra and Maria de Colio, this second Maria is daughter of Diego Garcia de Colio and Catalina de la Torre.

That essentially sums up how I concluded the lineage. Further proof Capellanias 1649-1851 Img 13 Pedro Gomez de Colio states Francisco de Covarrubias y Colio is related to him via his sister, Maria de Colio. So any tie with Covarrubias comes from Pedro's sister Maria, and not Diego, as the Nicolas de Ibarra lineage says.

Here is some additional proof that Elena Illan de Vargas probably did not descend from Diego Colio, brother of Pedro Gomez de Colio:

Capellanias 1692 Img 66 Diego de Herrera stated Maria de Colio is his grandmother, sister of Pedro Gomez de Colio.

Help finding Cuquío, Bautismos de hijos legitimos, Libro 12

Hola, I'm researching my Martin del Campo ancestors in Tateposco, Jalisco. I need help locating an apparently misfiled Cuquio baptismal book, "Libro 12" file, at familysearch.

I can see the Cuquio baptism register "Libro 11" at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-GB36-TM. This covers baptisms from 9-May-1779 through 5-Mar-1788. It is on film 615013 (DGS # 004031202). Then the records pick up at film 615014 (DGS # 004722604). That file has a handful of records from about 30-Mar-1789 with no book ID, and I see the start of "Libro 13" at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-FQ97-5G. This book has baptisms listed from 13-Jun-1789. Missing Libro 12 would appear to have Cuquio baptismal records from Mar 1788 through June 1789.

Does anyone have any idea where Cuquio baptismal Libro 12 is?

Forminil = Pinos Altos (Durango)

I found several baptisms in Santa Maria church in Los Remedios, Durango, some at la Capilla del Forminil, giving the birthplaces as Forminil. But I was not able to find anything on the Internet about Forminil.
Finally, I found the 7 Oct 1901 baptismal record of Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez that records her birthplace as "Pinos altos (Forminil)". You can see this text at the very bottom of the left-hand page in the image at
   familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-DWYC-2C?cc=1554576&wc=3PZQ-FMW
Pinos Altos is a very remote mountain town -- so remote that even now Google Maps "could not calculate driving directions" from Los Remedios to Pinos Altos.
