Census questions to Dr. Platt

I hope this isn't to confusing to understand. I wrote Dr. Lyman Platt with
some questions about the 1900, 1910 and 1920 Census for Mexico. Immediately
following this is his reply to my original email. then after the =========
lines is his reply to my follow-up email. I'm providing this FYI. Maybe one
day someone from this group will be the one to go to Casa Amarilla and discover
the 1910 Census for Mexico.

Joseph. Do you have my book of research
in Mexico City? If you do it talks about the earlier Mexican censuses. I
expect the one on census records also does in the introductory area.

I believe the first was 1895 and

Microfilms for Marriages in Nochistlan

I have access to several of the microfilms covering
marriages in Nochistlan -- from about 1736 to 1880.  They are on permanent
loan at my local LDS Family History Center.  I would be happy to do
"lookups" for anyone if you give me a date.  I'm sorry that I don't have
enough free time to just scroll through the films, but I have six children at
home + a dog, 2 cats, 2 fish, etc.

The films I have are:

0226734  1874 - 1880

0226733  1867 - 1874

0226732  1856 - 1866

0226731  1841 - 1855

0226730  1824 - 1841

0226729  1807 - 1824

0226728  1776 - 1807

0226727  1762 - 1779

0226726  1736 - 1762

Name Variation Database

Joseph:

        Should I send
the names I think of to you directly or to the list.  I sent one to the
list earlier; I just thought of another.  I have a feeling that that is how
it will be with me -- a slow trickle.  Anyway, another variation that I've
come across is:

        Yrungaray
interchanged with Nungaray.

        Also, Flores
de Medrano shortened to just Medrano -- but sometimes Flores.

        Quiralte and
Quirarte was both used; it appears that Quirarte was more common, but it was
also spelled (or misspelled) other ways.

        It appears
that Melendres was more common than Melendes in Nochistlan -- at least in my
database.  :-)

Name Variation Database

I've thought of another name variation -- particularly with the extracted
records in the IGI database at familysearch.org:

Yáñez with all its variant spellings can be found transcribed as Nanes.

Villanueva

has anyone ordered any Census records for Villanueva, Zacatecas? If so
have you come across a Rancho by the name of "Rancho de los Negros?"

thanks,

joseph

1855 Colotlan Area Padron

yes write the info down but also make copies from their film readers on the
more important ones or on all relatives if you can afford it. But if you
do this make absoluetly sure you write down the film number the volume number
the page number and record number if available for each record you copy.
In a few months or even years you'll be able to go back to the film so easy
with this info recorded.

but writing down the Ranchos is important is good as you will start familiarizing
yourself about exactly where your familia came from. Even on each film of
a specific area there can be many many many Ranchos that are referred to.
One day you'll be able to see the name of the Rancho and realize that the
probability of this person being a relative is much more likely because very
many of the folks living there were relatives.

I'm glad you are enjoying your hunting. . .it is so thrilling and such a
rush when you find a new relative.

Now
why didin't I think of jotting down all of the ranches covered in my
microfilm?  Sheesh, I've been holding it all in my head!  This hasn't
been too difficult yet because I have only looked at microfilm from
Jalostotitlan & San Juan de los Lagos,  thus far...   Of course,
Steven has enlightened me to those other ancestors from San Miguel el Alto,
Tepatitlan, and surrounding areas--and that's just in Jalisco.  What a
great idea, Joseph.
Thanks, Irma

okay so how come you all have been keeping the
1855 Colotlan area census a secret? I was thrilled when I found the 1817
Census awhile ago but am simply blown away by what i found in the 1855 Census.
Seems like "all, todos, or at least muchos" of the familia that I have
researched since this past August showed up on this film. If you have family
in

1855 Colotlan Area Padron

So I need to order film # 0443798 for Sauz de Los Marquez if I'm reading
this correctly?

bad handwriting but as the list got longer I changed my mind about typing
the info. Please do ask me to explain any spelling variations you might
perceive as a result of bad handwriting. . .just be glad I was recording
the info several centuries ago.

ps: On this film I found my ggg grandfather Cipriano Puente, my ggg
grandparents Antonio Gonzales/Ignacia Gonzales, my gg grandgrandparents
