These forum posts are from the old “Ranchos Archives” which was part of a Yahoo Groups system that operated between 2003-2006. This was a hybrid of electronic mailing lists and internet message boards. Manuel; I know so little about the La Barca area in Jalisco. My sister and her physician husband live there. My grandfather was from there and I an interested in finding how to get information on the area. My sister is very rich and hardly ever speaks to her "poorer" relatives so my inquiries through her have never gone anywhere. I wonder if you could give me some leads/websites or addresses. Jose L. Can those of you that have special maps for your particular area of
research send them to me? I want to make up a section that has only good
maps for as many areas within our area of research as I can. I'm not
looking for generalized maps but those that get down to the Rancho
level. If I've already got the map either at my personal site that is
linked to in the "links" area or one of the other links you don't need
to send it again. But if you have a nice one you are pretty sure we
don't have please scan it or have it scanned and send it to me. I'll
make up a section for them and make them available to everyone.
thanks, joseph
ps: I'd be especially interested in an Rancho level maps for the
Tepetongo, Sombrerete, Villanueva, Malpaso, Momax, Tepechitlan and
Tlaltenango, Zacatecas area.

As a new member, I've decided that I need to read all the postings since the beginning. I'm really impressed with the quality of the information and the commaraderie of this group. I'm looking for a book from Miguel Alba titled "Una seccion de los Alba de los Altos de Jalisco" it was supposed to have been published in Mexico,D.F. in 1981. If anyone has any suggestions how I might find it, I would appreciate it. My paternal grandparents are from Encarnacion de Diaz,Jalisco. Some of the surnames involved are: Alba,Gonzalez,Villasenor,Verdin,Romo,Moreno,Lomelin,Ortega,Guerra,Mart in,Estrada,Bocanegra,Sotomayor,Arenas,Retamosa. My Maternal grandfather is from La Noria de San Pantaleon, Zacatecas. Surnames there are: Breceda,Lares,Chacon,Rodriguez I will be updating my lines and posting it here in the next few weeks. Thanks, Ken

Joseph,
I've already introduced myself to you, but if I may, I would like to post a brief introduction to other members of the Ranchos group.
My name is Victor Villarreal and I'm from Tamaulipas, México.
My paternal surname and ancestry is mostly found in northeast México, particularly Nuevo León, but my maternal surname leads me back to Jalisco, Zacatecas and even
Hello: I have made a great discovery today and wanted to share it will all of the group. I was always told that we (family) were from Spanish decent and that a grandfather had come from Spain on a boat to Mexico. Blah Blah Blah! Well, Guess what? I guess oral stories do have some hint of truth. I was reading a book called "Historia de Guachinango" by Felipe Arreola (whom I bought the book directly from).
While visiting the El Paso County office and ordering death certificates for my grandfathers I was pleasantly notified by a clerk that I could go on line to search for information on DEATH, BIRTHS, MARRIAGES and CIVIL CASES. I did a Google search for "El Paso County search" and I was able to get quite a few of those pesky dates for more recent family members. The info is very basic but it did clear up alot of the blank spaces for my cousins their spouses, etc. How about your city? To find out you can call your local county office for theie internet address. If your city has a similar site could you share it with the group. Muy agradecida, muy agradecida! Yolanda
