re Segundo

There are 6 Juan Segundos or Juan Jose Segundos in my maternal line,
and they seem to have nothing in common. Two are first-born, one is
8th in line, one 6th, one 4th, only one is 2nd in line. No matches
as to birthdate. It seems that 'Segundo' at least in my family
doesn't necessarily mean second-born or second son.

I have occasionally come across 'Segundo' meaning the same as
'Junior' however. For example the father is Juan Bautista GOMEZ and
his son Juan is named Juan Bautista Segundo GOMEZ, or perhaps Juan
Bautista GOMEZ Segundo. If the record of baptism gives just the
child's name with no surname, as most baptisms do, it would look as
though part of his given name is Segundo. You can't be sure until
you come across him as an adult.

Ameca and Colotlan connection?

Saw some christening records (mid 1700's) in the addendum
listing Colotlan as the christening place but says the christening
records were extracted from Ameca. Since my ancestor was
supposedly born in Ameca and married in Colotlan, I am
wondering if there is a connection between these two places that
seem so far apart. I called the Salt Lake extractions department
and they have no idea why there is a discrepancy. Any ideas?
Thanks. Evie

Good Question,

I can ask and find out. We have some distant relatives in LA and they have a Segundo Olmos. As soon as I know I'll post the reply.

I think I just answered my own question:

I'd be willing to bet that the 445096 film is from the 1962 filming and that

Hi All,

I got this email and was wondering if any of it looks familiar to anyone.
. .it is pretty vague but you never know.

ps: I just got back from Washington DC. I went to the National Archives for
an introduction. I'd advise this as a source of info to anyone that has some
roots in the US. Of course that is not in the topic of this group and I'd
be glad to talk to anyone off group about my brief introduction to the Archives.
I also got some great photos of  some of the monuments and of my cousin,
Miguel Puentes' name that is on the Vietnam War memorial. There is a lot
of stuff about Mexico at the Archives but probably harder to find I'm guessing.

pps: I did find a map at the archives that had a Rancho on it named Refugio
and I was wondering if that might have been a map of the area before the
name turned to Tabasco, Zacatecas. . .I'm unsure.

Arturo have you tried the Civil Registers yet?  I couldn't find my
grandfather's birth record but found all his siblings in baptismal (church)
records.  I then tried the civil registers for 1888 and finally found
it.  I believe civil registers began around 1870 and going forward
buy I would try that next.   "Good luck"

Dear Group,

I am subscribing to all of you for some advise on locating my g=grandfathers birth records ( Fortino Romero ).  Practically all of my research has been here in Huejucar and I realize people moved around allot but I am not sure where to go from here.My grandfather Severiano Romero was born in Huejucar in 1898 son of Fortino Romero & Ciriaca Sandoval. I obtained the the film informacion matrimonial hoping this would show me where he was from. Well the film states that he was an originario and vecino del Rancho del Paraje. At the time of his marriage it shows him to be 25 years old but the baptismal records do not show him. I tried to get the birth records for Huejucar for the year 1870 but they only have them for starting with the year 1872. I
