I am related to the Sanchez de Porras family and I have put alot of research into them. Geronimo Sanchez de Porras, el Viejo's parents are Diego Sanchez de Porras and Elvira Sanchez. They were married in 1626 in Aguascalientes and had, to my knowledge, only one son. Geronimo was born in Aguascalientes in 1627.

I found that death record as well and I believe it to be that of Geronimo Sanchez de Porras's father. It is strange that the record says he is soltero.

I believe Jaime Holcombe discusses Elvira'a parentage in his letters.

Hello Sergio Sales
This is fantastic!!! Your diligence is paying off!! I'm sure you are aware, but one thing I want to point out is that in the marriage of Francisco de la Cueva to Maria Barillas his father is named Francisco Beltran de la Cueva.

I too am convinced that the husband of married to Thomasina de Velasco and Catalina Vera y Monrroy are the same person; however we must have the primary documents to support this claim. With your hard work, Katy's whirlwind, and work by others we will achieve success!!!
Congratulations on this find!!

Saludos

Steve

Hola Ruben,

I have also found records in Cuquio, Yahualica and Teocaltiche in Jalisco for Juchipila, Amoxochitl and Apozol prior to 1800. Search there.

For Jalpa specifically I wouldn't be surprised to find them in Nochistlan.

Hope that helps!

I am really interested in finding more Amoxochitl records.

Hi Ruben,

La Villita in Jalpa is my primary area of research so I'm very familiar with the lack of records. That being said, I've been able to find documents from Jalpa related to my family going back to before 1690. I have collected some of the names in my webpage: www.arturogonzalez.com/ourfamilies/persons.html

I have together my family trees from various sources some of which are not available online: 1. 1820 Jalpa Census (order film), 2. marriage dispensations from the Guadalajara Diocesis and Jalpa Church (both online) as well as Jalpa civil records (online), 3. Tierra y Aguas archive (order films), and 4. 1819-1827 Marriage book (privately obtained).

Like I said, these various pieces of information helped identify my relatives, including my 8XGreat grandparents, going back into the 1600s. I also found many, many maps of the land grants given (and fought over) to the families of Jalpa and surrounding areas like Huanusco, Calvillo, La Villita, etc. With these old maps and surveys, I used Google maps to trace the original land grant.

Let me know if you have particular question and hopefully i can help you out.

Best, Arturo G.

I would not rule out Tlaltenango, Zacatecas as a place to look as well. I have an ancestor that lived in Aguascalientes and found her buried in Tlaltenango. It was a crazy find.

Alicia Avelar Olmos de Carrillo
Ruben,
Historically, Juchipila and Jalpa were among the early towns that were settled during the colonial period, but unfortunately many of the records were lost or burned during the Revolution. My great aunt says her grandmother used to tell her stories of how they would enter the churches on horseback with torches and set the churches on fire in Jalpa. For about 10 years, I searched for records of my Olmos lineage and in January of 2012, I finally found a marriage record in Jalpa dating back to 1834. This was a big aha moment, knowing that my ancestors did not just appear out of the blue, their records are the ones that had disappeared. Most of my ancestors are from Nochistlan up until the early 1800's. As I trace further back, prior to Nochistlan, they were from Teocaltiche Jalisco and some were from Jalpa and still others from Tabasco or Villa del Refugio Mecatabasco. It's the ones who were from Jalpa that were elusive because of the lack of physical records.

Keep searching and in a roundabout way, you will find your family, that's how I was able to find mine.
Alicia, San Jose, Ca

well i couldn't find one for this couple on familysearch yet. this wouldn't be the first time where i find a regular marriage record mentioning a dispensation for the couple in question, but yet not finding it. i can't find one for my ancestors bartolome de luna and josefa lorenza de haro either.

Joseph,

So we should just sign into the website to view all postings (announce, research and the other one) and not expect to receive postings via e-mail? Is there a problem that recently came up with the software?

Many websites charge for membership, and as valuable as this one has been, I don't think most of us would mind paying for an annual membership in order to keep the website available, in my opinion

Emilie.

Hi Yolanda,

I don't actually know were Rancho de Tellos is and I only have one Tello in
my tree, Marcella Tello de Lomas, but, I know that no one will really be
able to help you unless you give specific names of people you're looking
for.

Paige

Welcome to the forum, Yolanda. Are you looking for anyone specific?

Paige

Hi Ester,

I read Juan Antonio Vicente, hijo natural de Susana Cuevas y madrina fue
Guadalupe Alvares. This would be my guess. The a's are consistently not
closed off at the top.

Hi Emilie,
I don't think this is isolated to just you and Danny. I don't get a lot of the emails either. But, I just go to the website to see what I might have missed. That's my workaround.

This should give a good start. Good Luck, Gloria

Thank you for providing this easy to understand review of this dispensa. It helped me realize that some parts of my tree was incorrect (too many Leonors and Juans). As for Geronimo Sanchez de Porras (Viejo and Mozo) I also found an Orden, thanks to the labors of Katy Brecht, for Juan Manuel Sanchez de Porras; son and grandson that demonstrates that they were two separate people. Another reason to work only with primary sources.

Thank you Manny that was great. I didn't know any of that or anything about
a capellania. It's very interesting to know how they lived in ancient times.

Hello, my name is Elena Becerra Woodard. Through my mother’s family, I believe I am related to both of you. My research shows that my ancestors from my grandmother on my mother’s side were in the Chinampas, Jalisco area for at least 250 years, before migrating to the US in 1898, settling in Colton, CA.

I am a direct descendent of the following people from Chinampas:
My grandmother: Felipa Canales (1890 – 1981)
Her parents: Simon Canales (1858 – 1955) m. Epimenia Contreras (1861 – 1902)
Juan Andres Canales (b. 1823) m. Maria Casilda Cuellar (b. 1829)
Jose Sixto Cuellar (b. abt 1780) m. Maria Felipa Sanchez (b. abt 1780)
Miguel Sanchez (b. abt 1760) m. Gregoria de Lira (b. abt 1760)
Antonio Atanacio Basilio Cuellar (b. 1765) m. Ana Maria Collazo (b. 1759)
Juan Cristomo Collaso (b. 1736) m. Maria Celedonia Delgado ( b. 1730)
Juan Delgado (b. 1703) m. Maria Ysabel de Peres y Gutierres (b. 1704)
Lorenzo Delgado (b. 1676) m. Juana de la Cruz (1675)
Lazaro Delgado ( b. 1655) m. Nicolasa de la Cruz (1650 – 1722)
Lucas de Ramirez Delgado (b. 1629) m. Maria Magdalena Hernandez (b. 1634)
Jose Miguel Cuellar ( b. abt 1740) m. Maria Josefa Martinez (b. abt 1740)
Maximo Canales (b. 1794) m. Josefa Gomez (b. 1797)
Ygnacio Gomez (b. abt 1770) m. Maria Matiana Barrientos (b. 1768)
Jose Miguel Canales (b. abt 1770) m. Paula Elena Perez (b. abt 1770)
Franciso Perez ( b.abt 1750) m. Petra Flores (b. abt 1750)
Jose Manuel Guadalupe Canales (b. abt 1750) m. Maria Antonia Garcia (b. abt 1750)
Gregoria Contreras (b. abt 1830) m. Timotea Ibarra (abt. 1820)

Several of my family lines in the Chinampas, Jalisco area intermarried with Terrones.

My father’s family are Becerras who lived in the Tepic, Nayarit area for at least 150 years before migrating to the US and settling in San Bernardino, CA.

Hi Barbara,

Welcome to the community. I’ve very well-researched on Ojuelos (Cienega and Sr San Jose), as well as San Matias, Pinos, and Asientos, Ags; most of my lines were settled in that area by the early-1700s, and oddly enough, none of mine have intermarried with any Terrones.

I do descend from the Lira on Chinampas, though from an earlier generation, so I don’t have your Manuela de la Trinidad. My ancestor was Margarita de Lira, baptized 7 Jun 1688, born on Chinampas. She married Francisco Becerra, her parents were Juan de Lira and Maria de la Cruz aka Maria de la Rosa aka Maria de la Concepcion aka Maria de la Encarnacion. Juan de Lira and Maria de la Cruz were either Mestizos, Mulatos Libres, Indios, or Coyotes, depending on the record (my Margarita was born Mulata Libre, but was India when she wedded). There were probably 2 Juan de Lira’s married to Maria's living on Chinampas in the same timeline, so I’m still not 100%, but I’ve sifted through the records and have determined that the following are their children:

1. Ana de Lira Candelaria, b. 32 Aug 1669, Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jalisco. (India), m. Gaspar de los Reyes.
2. Juan de Lira-Rosa, (Mestizo) m. Juana de Dios Ubaldo.
3. Jose de Lira Cruz, b. 30 Mar 1675, Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jalisco. (Mestizo),
4. Francisco de Lira, (Mestizo) m. Barbara Sanchez.
5. Manuel de Lira Concepcion, 26 Jul 1678, Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jalisco. (Mestizo)
6. Marcelino de Lira Cruz, b. 26 Jun 1680, Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jalisco. (Mestizo), m1 Teresa de Jesus Lopez m2 Juana Maria Ygnes de Escobar.
7. Maria de Lira Cruz, 20 Aug 1684, Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jalisco. (Mestiza)
8. Dominga de Lira, 02 Jul 1686, Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jalisco. (Coyota), m. Jacinto Martin.
9. Margarita de Lira, 07 Jun 1688, Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jalisco. (Mulata Libre), m. Francisco Becerra.
10. Maria Rosa de Lira Rosa, 06 Jun 1690, Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jalisco. (India)
11. Juan Miguel de Lira Cruz, 08 Sep 1691, Queretaro, Queretaro. (Mestizo)
12. Jacinta de Lira Cruz, 06 Jun 1695, Cienega de Mata, Ojuelos, Jalisco. (Mestiza), m. Bernsrdo Rodriguez.

Your Manuela de la Trinidad de Lira is likely a daughter of one of their children, since most remained on Chinampas when they married. So this is a good list to start with. Manuel de Lira is the obvious.

I’m always sifting through those archives, so I’ll keep an eye open for your peeps.

Saludos,

Manny Diez Hermosillo

Francisco Gonzales de Rubalcava had a son Nicolas. He married Petrona Ruis de Luna. See "México, matrimonios, 1570-1950," index, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JC69-SQR : accessed 11 Oct 2013), Francisco Gonzales De Robalcaba in entry for Nicolas De Robalcaba and Petrona De Luna, 06 Feb 1712.

In my tree, Petrona's sister Juana Ruis de Luna married Nicolas' cousin, his name was also Nicolas Gonzales de Rubalcava. His line is in my family tree. His parents were Juan Gonzales de Rubalcava and Catalina de Sena Herrera. See "México, matrimonios, 1570-1950," index, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JHPY-89X : accessed 11 Sep 2013), Nicolas De Robalcaba and Juana Ruis De Luna, 28 Mar 1713.

This was so confusing at first, but it's all confirmed.

My Cordero/Flores are indigenous on my grandmother's maternal side. We have no information on my grandmother's father as she was an "hija natural". My ggrandmother was Ramona Cordero Gomez(Flores), daughter of Yldefonso Cordero Torres & Ancela Gomez Gonzalez. My grandmother was taken from her family around 1910 at the tender age of 6 & though she returned to Tlajomulco twice as an adult she never found her mother nor brother, Manuel Flores, who was born about 1907. So, you are familiar with the practice of people just changing their surnames?
