I would spend your time at SLC in making copies of those records you
found on the IGI.  If you ONLY go after the extracted documents that
you know are on the films, you should have no problem getting thru
the 47 rolls of film you have.  Then any extra time can be used by
going thru a couple of films slowly.  If your list of documents to
find is listed

Interesting observation, Alberto.

I agree that in the last couple of centuries migration has been 
predominantly northward.  And the trend still continues!

In my previous post, I was refering to that time when the Spaniards 
were still exploring the unknown territories of New Spain.  That 
usually meant that the first to find valuable lands, mines, etc. 
would have a claim to the same.  This was the greatest incentive for 
the explorers.  At that time they just took a lucky chance in 
deciding what direction to go and hope for the best.

My records show that my people were in Zacatecas for
350+ years until my grandfather moved from Zacatecas
to Mapimi, Durango, about 1910. He probably moved
because of the wars, famine, and the need to make a
decent living for a large family of ten children.

>From Mapimi, my widow grandmother in 1924 went to El
Paso, Texas, taking all 5 children by herself. The
other five all died.

My dad left El Paso for Los Angeles in 1942 because of
the lack of opportunities for himself and his
children. Teas was a hard place to make a living for
anyone Mexican blood at that time.

I left Los Angeles in 1987 for Santa Maria,
California, because we could not take the high crime
rate and deterioration of our community.

My third oldest daughter left for New York city to

Well, it is not so much that this conversation would be boring to other members as it is that it could easily drift away from the main area of interest of the Ranchos group.  Anyway, just to reply to your previous post, here are a couple of comments.

I still don't have a full picture of all the historical events related to the first Villarreales in "the New Spain".  I know the first Villarreales that settled in Northeast Mexico were involved in mining for precious metals along with other historical characters as Bernabé de las Casas and Martin de Zavala.  I believe the first mining sites in Mexico were located in the center of the country and there was a gradual movement in search of new sites in practically every direction.  Many of the settlers of Nuevo Leon had already passed thru Guanajuato, San Luis Potosi, Zacatecas, etc. on their way up north.  I believe such is the case for Diego de Villarreal.

So glad to read your message and to know that you're also a Villarreal! Is that your paternal surname?

I still haven't been able to bridge beyond the 6th generation but I haven't exhausted all resources yet.  What I know for sure is that most of my Villarreals are in Nuevo Leon.  How about you?

About Danny, I've contacted him on a couple of occasions via e-mail but still haven't found the common link (if there is one.)  By the way, I have already sent in a DNA sample to be analyzed, but the results won't be back until early March, I hope.  Chances are that most of the Villarreals in Nuevo León are related.  Although I know that even Diego Villarreal, who is one of the earliest Villarreales in Nuevo León originally came from Mazapil, Zacatecas.  So it is possible that there might be a connection between the northeastern and the southern Villarreales.

I have known about the Catalogo de Pasajeros a las
Indias for the last 5 years.  It is a great resource,
however, it only helps if you if you have your
genealogy in the 1500's.  If your not that far back,
it really won't help that much, especially if you have
a common name.  Still, if your surname is unique, it
will tell you the first people that came to the
Americas with your surname.  Remember the lists are
for New Spain, Peru, and the Caribbean Islands.

As soon as I read on this board that the Westwood FHC had lots of 
Mexican films, I made a trip there as soon as I could. Of course, the 
traffic is terrible in that area (Santa Monica Blvd.)

I found lots of films from Jalisco, but none of them were needed for 
my research (for right now). I got really dissapointed while looking 
for two marriage records in Tlajomulco and Lagos de Moreno, and they 
had the films for the years around the time I was looking for, but 
not exactly the ones I needed. The good thing is that now I know what 
they have, and who knows, as my research progresses, I may need some 
of those films in the future.

They did have some films with info about my ancestors (Zacoalco and 
Atotonilco el Bajo), but I had already took all the information I 
needed from them months, or years ago. I did not find info on my 
ancestors, but still,I recommend you to go to this FHC just to spend 
a good time reading the books in their library and other microfilms.
