1876 Jalisco Map in Links
Irma, You could save the map to a file then open it up in photo editer program. Crop it to remove all the white space from the sides then resize it to your page (8x11.5). Make sure when you resize it that you maintain the same proportions. Usally in the photo editer programs there is usually a check box for that. You should then be able to print. Good luck. Muchas gracias por la orientacion.

Have you explored the possible descendancy from Juan de Onate and
clan? The name seems rare enough that it is likely most Onates in
Mexico are descendants of the same family.

dish. Each family has its own version but basically it is a bread
pudding as Emilie described. One Lent I introduced it to our mostly non
Hispanic office. It quickly lost its lenten character and now is requested as a
dessert whenever we have a pot luck gathering or fundraiser. Capirotada by
any other name takes just as good. What a wonderful group!! From
capirotada to DNA with gusto.

Interesting map Thanks for the map. I found a ranch or pueblo where one of my greatggggmothers once lived-S. Jose de la Isla, approximately on the year 1797. I also confirmed the road that once ran through my greatggggfathers ranch Lo de Luna; the road was a direct line from Jerez to Zacatecas, and my great--uncle Tiburcio Duarte in 1815 charged the stagecoach line for passing through his ranch or road. Lilli,
I have run across a number of Oñate family members coming over from Spain on my review
of Archivos en Red. Unfortunately I can not tell you which year it was since I had no need to
make copies. I have reviewed
every record in the Pasajeros list from 1635 to 1790 which is
the time frame you will find the Oñates; quite a number came over. If you use the Archivos en
Red, be very patient.

my haplogroup
Hi Ed,
Thank you for responding and for your insights. It has spurred me on
to more research.
After much searching I finally know my haplogroup. I went back to
FamilyTree/Ancestry.com and looked up my results again. They did not
list my haplogroup but referred me to a Haplogroup motifs website
http://www.stats.gla.ac.uk/~vincent/founder2000/motif.html
My haplogroup is U5a1a. From my mtDNA. You are correct in assuming
my dad is dead. His sister is also dead and left no biological
children. My brother will give me his YDNA sample to research with.

Thanks for the information
but my research is for the towns of jalostotitlan and san miguel el alto

That's a keen observation and
a good question about the number of differences in our mtDNA in relation to the
CRS reference.
Let's start by saying that the CRS (Cambridge Reference
Sequence) is just an arbitrary reference selected by some team of geneticist
that were among the first to study the genetic sequences of mitochondrial
DNA.

hello everybody I uploaded a portion of my genealogy on the maternal side of my father, this Oñate resided in San Pedro Piedra Gorda, Gto. (nowadays is City Manuel Doblado), legend in the family said that four brothers came from Spain, two stayed and two went back. When was it and who and who where they? my father doesn`t know. Maybe happened in 1820`s or maybe far long. Anybody related? Go to ranchos 2 and look in the folder of genealogies Thankyou all. Leticia Leon Morales aka lili pinzon

This is off-topic, I know, but I am on a roll about food history now.
Take a look at the following: http://www.ems.kdl.ac.uk/content/pub/b015.html
Scroll down to the seventh paragraph, and you will see a mention of "gato
por liebre". Some time ago, we had a discussion in this group about the meaning of that phrase, and this website gives the history of that saying. Apparently, some Spaniards were not averse to roasting cats and eating
them! They did caution that you must not eat the head (or its brains) since that could lead to madness. The article goes on to state that especially with the onset of Mad Cow Disease, people should not eat brains. I know that my husband used to love to eat "huevos con |

I know that my husband used to love to eat "huevos con cesos" amongst other gross things he has been known to eat (he is a real gourmand). The article states that perhaps Don Quixote's madness stemmed from his habit of having a breakfast of "huevos con cesos" on Saturdays, and that Cervantes (my husband is a |

Hello, Group,
I sent Joseph a recipe for capirotada from New Mexico that I found
online. I also sent him my mother's recipe for capirotada. (Hope he tries them out and lets us know how he did with them). I also sent Joseph a paragraph from a website on food history that
describes a Christmas feast given by King Phillip III in early 17th Century Spain. At each course they served many, many dishes, amongst them CAPIROTADA and several kinds of EMPANADAS. Joseph asked me to send you the link to that website: Scroll down to the fourth paragraph to read about King Phillip's
unbelievable pig-out of a fiesta! Emilie Garcia
