There are two sources of DNA used in forensic analyses. Nuclear DNA (nDNA) is typically analyzed in evidence containing blood, semen, saliva, body tissues, and hairs that have tissue at their root ends. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is typically analyzed in evidence containing naturally shed hairs, hair fragments, bones, and teeth. |

Joseph,
Is there
anyway to get a sample myself from my brother of his DNA? I am
heading to
sacramento as my brother has had an accident and is in serious
condition
with a head injury.
He is my last living brother and I understand the
DNA has to come from the
males? Is there anyway I can swab his mouth and
be told a way to preserve it
until I can get it analyzed or what ever you
call it?
Please let me know asap as I will be flying out tonite and
away from my
computer.
thank you

Joseph?
so sorry to hear about your brother. I don't know of ways to preserve
the DNA without one of the collection kits sent out with the test. I
might be wrong about this but I think there are more expensive tests
that can be done with hair. Another thing to consider is does your
brother have any male children because you can pick up your dad's side
via his male children and you can get your mom's mom's mom's etc side
via your own MtDNA.
again sorry to hear about your brother. joseph glo Sandoval-Fuentes wrote:

Hi Esperanza,
I have run across the surnames you mentioned
(de-Herrera & de-Luna) in my Los Altos research in birth & marriage records. It's worth a try. My great Aunt by marriage was a de-Luna from the ranch, La Cienega located in San Miguel el Alto. There are still de Lunas there. My cousin, Maria -Ventura is married to one, and lives on that ranch. I also have De Herrera in my family tree. Maria-Tomasa de-Herrera, born in 1776 (4th great grandmother) was born in San Juan de los Lagos, but her older siblings were born in Jalostotitlan. Irma

Wow, what a great
story. I bet the same happened to many of our grandparents that came from Mexico during those hard times. They suffered great hardships and give up many sacrifices so that we could led a better life. Regards.

I just wanted to share something that about my past. Recently, I learned what native american blood we have from our father's side of the family.
On the marriage record of Thomas Bermeo and Juana Flores (1742) it is mentioned that They were "Indios Tlaxcaltecos" and their parents origin was Nadadores,Coahuila, this is a small town close to Cuatro Cienegas. Here's what's interesting: Tlaxcaltecos Indians were not indigenous to Nuevo Leon/Coahuila area. Upon further research, I found out that these were the same Indians that had befriended Cortez and helped bring the Aztec empire down. Further, they were brought up by the Espanoles to the Nuevo Leon/Coahuila area to help docile the local population.
I thought this information was wonderful and it was found through birth certificates!. Our indigenous heritage was purposely down-played, and I, for one was delighted to find out why some of us are "morenos" on our father's side of the family.
Regarding the DNA project, a

Sylvia, If you need, in posting your information, or in organizing. Just let the group know. Because, I am sure that there are many of us who can help you out. If you ancestors are from the Pinos, Zacatecas area. I would suggest, getting in touch with Rosario Ellis (she is a member of the group). I know that she has been doing research in the Pinos area. Thanks, Jonathan

I in short am on the "bad girl" list for not yet posting my GEDOM Data as of yet. I just lost my mother in law and have been fighting one virus after another including, healing up my badly sprained ankle. This is my #3 attempt to use this thing right! I am descended from grandparents from Teocaltihe, Jalisco and Pinos, Zacactecas. I have travelled to both towns and collected substantial data and books from region. I have oral tradition of Judio customs from Zacatecas side whose journey to Merida, Yucatan was from Egypt. The family owned several cattle ranches, a hacienda in Pinos and meat markets throughout Jalisco, Aguacalientes and Zacatecas. The Los Altos, side which are in fact tall, 6 to 6'4" were artisans of leather.

I would be happy to share, but...could you please be more specific regarding names and dates.I have lots of data from all over Los Altos.
And like I had previously mentioned, there is no tangible evidence indicating that there were any French (which they really weren't) in Los Altos. They're just pure "Espan~oles."
By the way, I passed through Pegueros when I was down there last summer. I was staying in Capilla de Guadalupe and went to San Juan de los Lagos. The camion first went to Tepa, then from there it passed through Pegueros on its way to Jalos and then San Juan de los Lagos. Looked like a really nice little Pueblo

My trip to Los Altos in 1993 was very much like yours (Mexico Jalisco, Los Altos-Tepetitlan, Pegueros) in that I found most of the people from that region very fair. My wife's family is from Pegueros/Tapitatlan, Jalisco. And of course, I stood out since I'm a moreno just like my late grandmother from Zacatecas, Zacatecas. The people from Tepatitlan and Pegueros were very cordial, nice, and accommodating, to me and my wife, and my children. Her uncle claimed their fairness can be attributed to the French influence left by the French back in the 1860s. But I corrected him on this. Most of the French troops in Mexico were not French but Germans (Hessians) that were hire by Napoleon to fight the Mexicans. I found no German or French names in either of the two towns. If any of group has information on any my wife's family names, Gutierrez, Padilla, Gonzalez, Casillas, from Los Altos, will you please share it. Thank you. Thanks Steven for this light you bring about Los Altos. My first visit to Los Altos was to Atotonilco in 1980 and I was surprised of many relatives on my Mom's side with blue and green eyes and blonde hair. Mostly the Abarcas. I was clear to me that the surname was spanish, but I was misled as this was mostly of French inheritance and I believed that for a long time. Recente research and conversations with some Abarcas and Valles living here in Los Angeles made me realize that the region was mostly inhabited by spanish people, and some indios and mestizos, of course. But nothing about French presence during Maximiliano's empire in Mexico in the 1860's. I recently had a conversation with my uncle Eliseo Valle (he is 95 years old) and lives in Whittier. He told me, and correct me if this is incorrect, that some Hacienda owners in Jalisco were attacked by the French and they moved to the Highlands running away from them and established in the region at that time (1860's). Looks like
